Medena Ensemble & Jennifer Reid @ The Bunker

A different kind of night at the Bunker, Monday, April 28th.
We will have two guest spots on the night.
  • First half: Medena Ensemble singing traditional Bulgarian Folk songs. This is also a fundraiser for a trip to the old country.
  • Second half: Jennifer Reid from the UK is a champion of the Industrial Revolution work song featuring Broadside Ballads.
This should be a really great night, don’t miss out. No booking necessary, just show up early to get a seat!

MEDENA ENSEMBLE Aotearoa Women sing Bulgarian Folk Songs

A evolving circle of Aotearoa/NZ women, enamoured with Bulgarian Folk Song, led by TUi MAMAKi. This ensemble explores vocal tone, bewitching harmony, playful rhythm and the colourful feminine fabric of a community blend. Be they Classic Bulgarian Folk Choir Arrangements, or Obscure Rural Treasure Songs, at times arranged for improvisation, these gifts are issue of Tui relationship with Bulgaria and its enchanted voices. Medena means “honeyed”!

JENNIFER REID 

Reid is a punk folk artist dedicated to keeping the rich heritage of nineteenth-century music alive. She researches, preserves and performs Lancashire dialect and Victorian broadside ballads, carrying on the tradition of using music as a social provocation.
