Musical Sound Journey @ Arataki Visitor Centre

February 15 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

$20

Relax on the deck enjoying views over the beautiful Waitākere forest while listening to the sonic landscapes of musicians Matt Reece and John Goudge.

Having grown up in or around the West Auckland bush, Matt and John find inspiration in the trees, beaches, and rugged hills. They often include native bird song and the sounds of nature in their musical compositions, along with traditional Māori instruments. Their one-hour journey through air, earth, water, fire, and ether encompasses a mixture of original ambient world music, song, and chill-out beats.

They invite you to stretch out with your ears. If you choose, you might want to move, or dance in your own way. And there are beautiful carvings, displays and artworks of the visitor centre to enjoy while you are listening.

This is an intimate event where seats are limited. Booking is essential.

If it’s raining the event will be indoors. Please arrive early to get yourself settled before the programme starts.

Matt Reece is a long-time student of world instruments, including overtone flutes, kalimba, ngoni (African harp), taonga puoro (traditional Māori instruments), didgeridoo, and percussion.

John Goudge has been a singer/songwriter, composer, and musical director for nearly four decades. As part of Musical Sound Journey, he fuses sound effects, synthesizers, guitars, and voice with world music.
