DESCRIPTION:The Ministry of Folk are cooking up another cockles-warming evening of Aotearoa acoustic songwriters in a beautiful old hall halfway-down Dominion Road in Mt Eden. \nHosted\, as ever\, by banjo and fiddle wranglers HOOP\, attendees will be able to enjoy the show from ‘cabaret-style’ tables and can bring their own snacks and drinks. \nHoop will start things off with a clutch of new songs and favourites from their latest album Wrap me Up in Winter. \nThe Al Wilkinson Band will deliver a set of their distinctive blend of Kiwi Country\, Folk and Rock\, featuring melodic songs inspired by Al’s personal experiences and the people and events that have shaped his life. \nLevi Lights On and band will then perform a soulful\, genre-blending set with heart\, depth and a message. With powerful vocals and thought-provoking songwriting\, Levi’s music explores connection\, identity and our shared humanity. \nIt promises to be a magical night so grab your tickets now. SUMMARY:High\, Wide and Handsome @ Titirangi Folk Music Club
DESCRIPTION:Take your pick on which one’s High\, Wide and Handsome but one thing’s for sure – these guys are entertaining\, with Lew Black’s powerful voice\, Andrew Gough’s intricate guitar work and John McKeown’s smooth harmonica playing\, together with their combined harmonies. All three are multi-instrumentalists with a long involvement in the folk music scene.\n\nRaised near the Liverpool docks\, Lew has performed solo at various clubs\, guested at the Auckland and Hamilton Folk Festivals\, played Irish music in ‘Paddy Mac\,’ and performed\, internationally and locally\, shanties with the Maritime Crew.\n\nHe and Andrew have collaborated previously in groups ‘Brouhaha’ and ‘High Wide & Handsome v1.’ Andrew has also performed in Honiara\, Solomon Islands\, and Fiji\, and has the odd habit of hanging out with the Bethells Beach Firecrew band.\n\nJohn’s involvement goes way back to his upbringing in Stoke\, his time in Wales and\, after emigrating here\, he played trad with ‘Morgan Magan’ in the Kapiti Coast in the ‘80’s and since then with various line-ups down country and now in Auckland. He helps run ‘Friday Folk’ at Titirangi and enjoys having fun with the guys in HW&H.\n\nHigh & Wide & Handsome will entertain you with their collection of eclectic songs with some humour thrown into the mix.\n\nDoors open 7.30PM for an 8.00PM start.Floor singers First half.AdmissionMembers $10.00\,Non-Members $15.00\,Under 18s Free.
