They met as fellow jammers at the Auckland Blues Music Club\, where Bill plays bass and Marcus plays harmonica\, guitar and they both sing. Discovering they both had four string tenor guitars\, they began to play and perform with these together. Subsequently they brought in their other instruments to the duo\, and developed a wide-ranging repertoire including blues\, folk and other genres\, in both acoustic and electric forms. For both of them the words matter\, including that they can be heard\, and they value simple arrangements of music and songs that they come across. For their guest spot they will be concentrating on six-string acoustic guitars and Marcus’s harmonicas.\n\nWarm clothing recommendedDoors open 2.30pmEntry $10.00 cash at the doorNo bar\, so it’s BYOTea/Coffee/Cake at 1/2 time – Gold coin donation please

SUMMARY:Milly Tabak & Dave Khan - Winter Jazz Series @ Casita Miro
DESCRIPTION:The winter jazz season should always start with a country act. Milly Tabak\, of Milltones fame\, swaps the grand stages of WOMAD for the intimate chapel of grapes that is Casita Miro. She’s joined by Dave Khan! He’s the long-time lead guitarist for Marlon Williams and key side-man and producer for Reb Fountain. \nMilly and Dave have unbelievable chops and a huge repertoire of the best country songs you’ve never heard before. Khan also brings his exceptional fiddle sound. “The tone of Khan’s violin at Casita will be epic.” says Nick Atkinson “You’re so close to the action you’ll see little clouds of rosin burst from his strings as he bows his well travelled violin. With Milly Tabak at his side they unlock outrageously good sets. They’ll open the winter jazz season with nothing but amazingly hot licks. Come for the embroidered shirts\, stay for knees-up.”

SUMMARY:Ebony Lamb & Gram Antler @ Unitarian Church
DESCRIPTION:EBONY LAMB and GRAM ANTLER return home from Tokyo this winter for a sweet 5-date tour of New Zealand at some of their favourite venues. Performing as a duo and releasing Gram Antler’s long awaited debut album ‘Novel Lover’ alongside Ebony’s beloved catalogue of original work and road-testing new creations inspired since relocating to Japan in 2025. \nDon’t miss this double headline performance as they traverse their own personal musical landscapes together\, sliding the screen open for the audience to share in a night of intimate songwriting\, atmospheric harmonies and the strong audience rapport they are renowned for. \n– EBONY LAMB\nEbony Lamb\, is one of New Zealand’s finest singer-songwriters\, with a poetic voice and a vivid\, surrealistic intimacy\, turning the minutiae of everyday life and the defining memories that stay with us into a rich melange of indie-folk-jazz-alt-pop. Her debut self-titled album was produced with two of New Zealand most prestigious artists Bic Runga and Kody Nielson and released on Nadia Reid’s boutique label Slowtime Records to much critical acclaim. \nDrawing comparisons to Gillian Welch\, Cat Power and Neko Case\, Ebony released three critically-acclaimed albums with her former band Eb & Sparrow in Wellington New Zealand before embarking on a solo career under her own name and a progressive musical direction. Ebony transforms everyday observations into a rich tapestry of sound that resonates deeply with a wide listening audience. \n– GRAM ANTLER\nFor years\, Gram Antler has been a foundational\, quiet force in the Aotearoa New Zealand indie landscape—anchoring the sweeping and sharp melodies of EBONY LAMB\, PASHTAG and EB & SPARROW with his dynamic vocal\, bass and guitar work; while also creating music for podcasts\, such as RNZ’s award-winning Mr Lyttle Meets Mr Big\, and the odd stand-in as a session player for FRENCH FOR RABBITS and MARLON WILLIAMS. \nA reformed choirboy\, a post-alt-country romantic now operating from the neon-hued\, late-night sprawl of Tokyo\, Japan\, Gram Antler makes music that feels like a beautiful\, hazy contradiction. Gram Antlers style draws on a fluid\, sophisticated line from the timeless glam of Roxy Music to the velvet-gloom of Richard Hawley; Slacker Yacht-Rock—a world of hooky melodies\, lush analog textures\, and cinematic\, late-night introspection that mirrors the atmospheric shift of his new surroundings. \n‘Novel Lover‘ is Gram Antlers long awaited debut album\, out July 10th 2026 (Title single out Tuesday 9th June 2026) and was recorded in close collaboration with Tui Award-winning\, Melbourne-based producer BRETT STANTON (THE PHOENIX FOUNDATION\, BEASTWARS)

SUMMARY:Joe Bennick @ East Coast Folk Club
DESCRIPTION:Award-winning German singer-songwriter and author Joe Bennick offers a live special experience with his guitar and unique voice. With his songs and the multi-layered lyrics\, he creates sound images to dream and immerse himself\, which he presents entertainingly and skillfully. \nIt is the contrasts that give the art of Joe Bennick the special appeal. It combines brightly radiant sounds with energetic lyrics and gentle poetry with powerful sound. In this way\, he shows himself to be a stylistically diverse artist whose music is not only the expression of his poetry\, but always also a reference to the inconsistency of feelings. \nJoe Bennick is a regular guest on Germany’s concert stages and has found his place there in the singer-songwriter spectrum between folk-pop and acoustic-indie. \nCasual performers 1st half with featured guest in the 2nd half\, but we might reverse the order.

SUMMARY:The Whinray Family @ Titirangi Folk Music Club
DESCRIPTION:Kevin Mayes & Rosie Whinray met through a mutual love of unaccompanied folk singing. Kev’s background farming in Sussex shaped his repertoire & style\, while Rosie was brought up in the Auckland folk scene. \nBoth now live nearer the head of the fish\, in Shannon (Kev) & Wellington (Rosie). Strong solo singers in their own right\, they also sing together in harmony. Songs of land & sea\, love & war\, beer & wine\, politics\, comedy\, work\, magic\, & sheep: hearty history sung the traditional way. \nRosie’s Dad Paul Whinray was a folk singer back in the days of his youth\, harmonising with Raynor Asher\, & later a world-renowned maker of Baroque flutes & recorders out of his workshop in the Bethells bush. With luck Paul will get up & sing a few songs too!

SUMMARY:Greta O'Leary's Year Of The Dog @ Public Bar (Whammy)
DESCRIPTION:O’Leary celebrates the release of her chart topping single ‘Year of the Dog’ with a live show this August 19th. Joined by her band and support to be announced. \nUndeniably infectious and impeccably pieced together\, ‘Year of the Dog’ is a journey into an absurdist childhood dream. Created with long time collaborator\, Jol Mulholland at the famed Lab Studios\, who co-produced the track with O’Leary. Year of the Dog is dominating the alternative radio charts and receiving stellar support from RNZ\, RollingStone AU/NZ and NZ media. \nO’Leary\, known for her eclectic writing and arrangements\, presents her latest release\, following in the well paved footsteps of her breakthrough debut album ‘River Dark’. Released to great acclaim in 2025\, a Top 10 Aotearoa Album Chart & numerous #1 SRN & alt radio airplay charts\, the album clearly established O’Leary as a rising figure in Aotearoa’s varied musical landscape.\nWhile her debut River Dark took the listener on a tender and reflective path\, ‘Year of the Dog’ does the opposite\, galloping out the gate\, not looking back. \n‘Year of the Dog’ is animal spirit\, it’s racing forwards and upwards\, fast and free. It’s renewal’
