SUMMARY:Transglobal Music Session - Special guest Hinekoia Tomlinson
DESCRIPTION:Come along to for a relaxed\, welcoming afternoon of music-sharing and connection. Free and open to everyone – for this session you only need yourself and your voice \n\nWe are delighted to welcome you to our October Transglobal Music Session with our guest for this month: Hinekoia Tomlinson from Waiata Mai Vocal Coaching \n\n\nHinekoia (Whakatōhea\,Te Aitanga ā Māhaki\, Ngāti Makerewai\, Ngāti Hine and Ngāti Awa) has been a vocal coach and performer for over 20 years\, and is absolutely obsessed with all things voice. Singing\, teaching\, sharing\, celebrating – if it involves voice\, she’s in! \nShe created Waiata Mai Vocal Coaching to blend her love of vocal science with her passion for te ao Māori. Her mission is to create an āhuru mōwai: a warm\, welcoming space where people can grow their vocal skills\, build real confidence\, and connect with te reo Māori through the magic of waiata. Hinekoia also loves supporting kapa haka teams\, including groups who’ve performed on the Te Matatini stage like Te Taha Tū and Te Ringa Kaha. Whether clients are preparing for performances\, enhancing their group’s vocal strength\, or building confidence in leading waiata\, Hinekoia is there to uplift\, support\, and help their rōpū shine. \nShe is also proud to be one of only four Estill Master Trainers in Aotearoa. Estill is a science-based approach that works for every style – kapa haka\, pop\, musical theatre\, public speaking\, and everything in between. (She’s a total voice nerd and not even sorry about it.)

Super funny and charismatic\, he is also an extraordinarily talented and engaging guitarist. Her playing has a lively\, theatrical quality with a touch of old-world magic.\nTogether\, Adam and Marika make playful\, spirited music rooted in Irish and Scottish folk traditions\, weaving in soulful ballads\, gypsy jazz and flaming-hot fiddle tunes. Firm favourites at the Auckland and Wellington folk festivals\, we’re delighted to bring them over the water to Ōmiha!\nTickets $30 via Humanitix  This intimate event will sell out\, please book ahead!\n

SUMMARY:Albi Solo Show @ Movespace
DESCRIPTION:Albi\, Chris Dent\, is a quiet but unrelenting force that’s been songwriting\, touring\, and performing for the better part of 15 years. Optimistic on rainy days\, and melancholic for the friends he’s lost and loved along the way\, Albi will warmly take you places with his music and live performance. \nHe’s proudly albino\, a condition that impacts his eyes\, skin and hair but has not slowed him down\, and it’s become a large part of his identity. A friendly figure who you’ll spot in a crowd with his district all white beard. He’s not let his vision affect his career and has seen many successes including a Best Folk Artist award at the Aotearoa Music Awards in 2018\, performing at WOMAD in 2020\, or touring Europe with acts Zarek & Albi and Albi & The Wolves in 2019 and 2026. \nAlbi\, or Chris if you meet him off stage\, is just a regular fella with a guitar who’s eager to learn your stories and share his own. He’s been sober for 6 and a half years and is looking forward to laying down a solo E.P. later this year. \nIf the opportunity arises to see him play Albi is an uplifting force of joy and music and should not be missed.

After meeting and playing together for the first time at a folk festival during Sonia’s first visit to New Zealand on a solo round-the-world trip in December 2014\, the pair have since become a well-loved duo in the New Zealand music scene and beyond — sharing songs as a vehicle for peace\, joy\, healing and community-building; celebrating beauty\, love and ecology through music. \nBen Fernandez\nMusical Director\, Composer\, Arranger\, Educator \nBen Fernandez is a classically trained jazz pianist\, composer and arranger. He has a Masters’ Degree in Music\, majoring in Jazz Performance\, from the University of Auckland\, as well as degrees in Physics\, Computer Science and Business Management. \nBen has performed at concerts and events in more than 25 countries and is an award-winning composer for jingles\, TV shows and short films. He has released 10 albums of his music in New Zealand and also works as an educator\, teaching music at schools and colleges in Auckland. He conducts regular improvisation workshops in New Zealand and overseas and has recently completed composing music for a new rock musical to be staged later this year. \nCome along\, settle in with a drink and something delicious from the cabinet\, and join us for this special evening of music\, stories and celebration. \nTickets: $25 + booking fees in advance through Eventfinda\, or $30 cash on the door. \nMerci & à bientôt!

SUMMARY:Buffalo Traffic Jam @ The Tuning Fork
DESCRIPTION:Breakout Montana folk duo Buffalo Traffic Jam are heading to Aotearoa this October\, marking their first visit on the Down Under Tour 2026. Hot on the heels of a sold‑out US tour\, they’ll showcase their latest release Take Me Home\, alongside earlier favourites that have collectively clocked over 8 million streams\, fuelling a devoted and rapidly expanding fan base. \nWith rich harmonies\, stripped-down instrumentation\, and vocals that make you feel; whether it’s longing\, joy\, or that bittersweet in-between\, Buffalo Traffic Jam creates songs that linger long after the last chord fades. Their music is as much about atmosphere as it is about melody\, rooted in folk traditions but carried forward by a modern emotional edge. \nABOUT BUFFALO TRAFFIC JAM: Buffalo Traffic Jam is a folk band born in the heart of Bozeman\, Montana\, where its members\, Frankie Cassidy and Nathan Ross\, first crossed paths as students at Montana State University. United by a love for storytelling and the raw beauty of acoustic sound\, they began crafting music that evokes wide-open landscapes and the emotions that live quietly beneath the surface of everyday life. The result was a self-titled debut EP followed by singles “Rescue Me” and “Forgot Your Roots\,” the latter of which saw the band gain their first online momentum\, leading to explosive growth in the past 3 months. \nTheir newest release\, the Take Me Home EP\, marks a defining moment in Buffalo Traffic Jam’s evolution — showcasing a deeper\, more expansive sound while staying grounded in the heartfelt lyricism and raw instrumentals that first won them fans. The project weaves together themes of resilience\, nostalgia\, and self-discovery\, subjects that have become commonplace in the songwriting of Buffalo Traffic Jam. \nThis year Buffalo Traffic Jam made their festival debuts at Under the Big Sky and Redwest Fest and are currently on tour with country singer-songwriter Dylan Gossett. From dorm room jam sessions to packed venues across the US\, Buffalo Traffic Jam has stayed true to their roots.
