DESCRIPTION:Jeff grew up on the North Shore where he learned to play the accordion as a child. The teenage Jeff realized the guitar to be a more desirable instrument at that time\, but he picked up the accordion again in his 30’s to play a variety of American musical styles while living and working in Denver\, Colorado for over 30 years. During that time\, he also played the upright bass for the Aurora Symphony in Denver and other various other ensembles. Since returning to Auckland\, he has formed the band Donnybrook Fair with Todd Wright\, still playing the same accordion that his mother bought for him when he was 10 years old.Jeff believes music is best played with friends\, for friends. DESCRIPTION:Come and cozy up with a warm drink\, a meal\, sweet treat and/or glass of wine and enjoy the folky/jazzy/gypsy/world music sounds of this rare collaboration between pianist Ben Fernandez and the Sonia & Nigel duo. \nSonia & Nigel duo \nSonia & Nigel are a multi-cultural acoustic duo featuring French-American Paris-born Sonia Wilson on vocals & ukulele and Kiwi-American virtuoso musician Nigel Gavin on 7-string guitar. They weave French\, Kiwi and American songs with their own original compositions and inspiration from their travels around the world. After meeting and playing together for the first time at a folk festival during Sonia’s first visit to New Zealand on a solo round-the-world trip in December 2014\, the pair have since become a well-loved duo in the New Zealand music scene and beyond – sharing songs as a vehicle for peace\, joy\, healing and community-building; celebrating beauty\, love and ecology through music. \nBenedict (Ben) Fernandez \nBen Fernandez is a classically trained jazz pianist\, composer and arranger. He has a Masters’ Degree in Music majoring in Jazz performance from the University of Auckland. He also has degrees in Physics\, Computer Science and Business Management. Ben has performed at concerts and events in over 25 countries and is an award-winning composer for jingles\, TV shows and short films. He has released 10 Albums of his music here in NZ. Ben is also an educator and teaches music at schools and colleges in Auckland. He conducts regular workshops on improvisation in New Zealand and overseas. DESCRIPTION:It would be almost impossible not to smile and tap your foot to the sweet sounds of New Zealand’s only all-female bluegrass group\, Hot Diggity. The band belts out a mixture of original songs by Heather Carrigan (mandolin\, guitar and vocals) and Deborah Mackenzie (guitar and vocals) along with plenty of bluegrass favourites. Backed up by Jenine Abarbanel (bass and vocals)\, Sue Drake (banjo and vocals) and Louise Evans (fiddle and vocals)\, they put out a powerful\, lively sound with hot instrumentation and tight harmonies.\nThe five Hot Diggity gals hail from throughout the North Island from as far north as sunny Tangowahine down to the heart of Auckland city. Their love of bluegrass means that while the miles might lie between them\, they load up the old wagon – Jenine’s trusty Toyota van which they dream will one day miraculously morph into a shiny red 1960 Holden Special (FB station sedan) – as often as possible for regular gigs and jam sessions.Traditionally bluegrass music has been dominated by guys with moustaches\, sharp suits and hats\, singing songs about being broken-hearted and the odd train. Hot Diggity brings a sparkle of feminine glamour and humour to the genre performing songs about breaking hearts and LOTS of trains… while kitted out in vintage style.\nThe band was formed in 2014\, but all five members are veteran musicians having played with numerous other bands in a variety of musical styles for years. In 2017 they released their debut album\, Worth the Wait.\nCome along for a sparkling night of music with Hot Diggity!\n\n\nProgrammeThe first half of the evening brings musicians old and new to warm us up before supper and our main guest/s.
