SUMMARY:Derya Yildirim & Grup Şimşek & WAIWHAI @ Double Whammy
DESCRIPTION:Alchemically blending traditional Anatolian folk with funk-infused grooves and 70s-inspired psychedelia and soul\, the multinational quartet Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek summon a hypnotic sound quite unlike anything else on the current music landscape. \nLed by the astonishing German-born Turkish singer and bağlama player Derya Yıldırım\, the four piece – which includes French musicians Graham Mushnik (keys) and Antonin Voyant (guitar/bass)\, along with Berlin-based South African drummer Helen Wells – formed in 2014\, earning a reputation for their genre-defying mix of folk\, psychedelia\, pop\, soul and jazz. Drawing on the spirit of their Turkish predecessors\, the band’s dreamy saz-funk and psych rock is both powerful and bewitching.

SUMMARY:You\, Me\, Everybody @ Whangateau Hall
DESCRIPTION:Aotearoa’s bluegrass explorers\, You\, Me\, Everybody\, bring their new album\, Midnight to The Whangateau Hall.\nRooted in tradition but unafraid to innovate\, the band blends virtuosic musicianship with gracious arrangements to create a progressive acoustic sound that reaches well beyond classic Americana.
