Turkey the Bird is bringing their wild\, genre-hopping set of original folk\, swing\, and alt-roots tunes to the hall for one night only. Expect tight harmonies\, strings and stories that veer from heartfelt to downright ridiculous — all delivered with the kind of energy that makes it hard to sit still. Also expect outfits that look like what happens when an op shop and a disco ball have a very confused baby. \nSupporting on the night is our house band Hoop — they’ll kick things off with their warm acoustic tunes. Think layered vocals\, fiddle\, banjo and flute that sets the perfect mood for the evening \nCome along to the beautiful old hall\, BYO drinks and snacks\, and settle in for an intimate evening of acoustic music. Having toured extensively across Europe\, he brings a depth and honesty to the stage that we’re delighted to welcome to MOF. \nMilly Tabak\, an award‑winning Auckland singer‑songwriter\, is known for her soulful voice and heartfelt Americana storytelling. Best recognised as the frontwoman of The Miltones\, she’ll treat us to an intimate\, emotionally rich set that reveals the craft and vulnerability behind her songs. A warm and magnetic performer\, Milly draws listeners in from the first note. Her music combines folky\, lilting melodies and funky grooves\, balancing waves of sadness with lyrical silliness. She released her debut EP ‘Weightless’ in 2023 and is happily gigging with her super-talented band of local indie musicians Tom\, Chelsea\, Callum & Geoff.\n\nAs usual\, your hosts Hoop will start off proceedings with their unique blend of folk and pop. The show features Sean Kelly on vocals\, whistles\, bodhran and guitar\, and Jono Lonie on fiddle and electric mandolin\, with Maree Limpus looking after the video backdrop (as featured on BBC Northern Ireland). As well as the professional music and visual delivery\, Sean will present an authentic dialogue on a tumultuous time in the history of Derry\, Donegal and the north of Ireland. This entertaining show will entertain but also enlighten and leave you with that elusive sense of wonder. \nWe’re also very excited to have young and uber-talented duo Moon Goose back by popular demand! They’ll warm your heart with their intricate harmonies and beautiful folk-scapes. Get ready to be swept away by stories of magic and mystery as Holly Dove (guitar and vocals)\, together with Britta Hamill (fiddle and vocals)\, share songs collected from travels around England and Scotland\, weaving them together with their own spine-tingling music. Their enchanting and hypnotic new EP (On the Island Where Our Shadows Lie) is out now on streaming services and is a firm favourite at MOF and in the wider folk community. \nThe Ministry’s 5-piece host band Hoop will start off the night. Expect to hear sweet harmonies and feel-good songs about life and love\, with the odd political and social commentary thrown in for good measure. The band features Al Baxter (vocals\, guitar\, harmonica\, banjo)\, Nick Edgar (vocals\, guitar\, flute)\, Emily Allen (violin\, viola)\, Glenn Coldham (bass) and Gary Hunt (percussion) filling in for drummer Rusty Knox. \nCome along to another joyous celebration of local music.

DESCRIPTION:An exciting line-up for The Ministry of Folk in February!\nBring your own drinks and snacks\, grab a table and settle down for a night of magic.\n\nC.Zukey is originally from Canada and MOF first became aware of his wonderful talents back 2012 when his band was Farah Loux. He’s back with a sparkling\, lush\, warm and heartfelt album “Stone Fruut” produced by acclaimed New Zealand producer Mark Perkins.\n\nKiwi music legend Luke Hurley was once described as “New Zealand’s best unknown musician”. He’s influenced by the likes of Paul Simon\, Neil Young\, Joni Mitchell\, John Renbourne\, Bert Jansch\, Jimi Hendrix\, Richie Blackmore and Robert Johnson. The Christchurch Star famously said “If Bob Dylan could play the guitar and sing… he would be Luke Hurley”. Luke now lives in Auckland and his current style of playing been described as “Indian tabla meets Irish rock”. According to Liz Barry: “Lukes style captivates the listener with gentle melodies\, exquisite guitar technique and simple yet sometimes complex rhythms.”\n\nMOF hosts\, Hoop will deck the hall and kick things off with their acoustic pop songs featuring harmonious touches of fiddle\, banjo and flute.

She has toured globally performing in stadiums and at festivals. Marika will be accompanied by the mercurial Adam Ogle on DADGAD guitar and mandolin and we are guaranteed a spellbinding performance from this awesome duo.\nCollege Hillbillies. They have an original style that sways somewhere between Celtic rock and Americana. This veritable supergroup of Auckland musicians are at their best live so expect great songs\, solid grooves and awesome picking.
