SUMMARY:The Mountain Goats @ Powerstation
DESCRIPTION:Live\, The Mountain Goats are John Darnielle\, Peter Hughes\, and Jon Wurster. \nJohn Darnielle is one of the most imaginative lyricists of his generation. Since he sat down cross-legged with an acoustic guitar in front of a boom box and pressed record for the first time – more than a decade ago – skewed characters\, vibrant images and perfectly-framed narratives have flowed in the hundreds. \nThe Mountain Goats released their latest album ‘The Life of the World to Come’ in 2009\, recorded in three studios across three states it features string arrangements by Owen Pallett (Final Fantasy)\, who has also worked in a similar capacity with the varied likes of Arcade Fire\, Fucked Up and the Pet Shop Boys. The Life of the World to Come is their sixth album for 4AD\, and is less a profession of religious faith than an immersion in Biblical poetry and imagery. The songs take their cue from verses that have either informed or inspired them.

SUMMARY:David & Shimna + Adam & Marika @ Mt Eden Village Hall
DESCRIPTION:Expect some dazzling fiddle playing\, infectious grooves\, fun vibes\, and close vocal harmonies\, all in a family friendly show at the beautiful Mt Eden Village Hall. It’s not often you get two of New Zealand’s top violin and guitar duo’s putting on a joint show so make sure to get in quick! \nDavid & Shimna are an acoustic guitar and violin duo whose music has been described as “absolutely beautiful… perfectly played… fragile yet powerful.” Their sound blends intricate guitar work\, lyrical fiddle\, and close vocal harmonies into a powerful yet vulnerable experience for all present. \nDuo favourites at the recent Auckland Folk Festival – Adam & Marika bring both charm and exceptional fiddle and guitar skills when they hit the stage together. Performing stunning original compositions plus their own take on scottish and irish trad tunes\, the pair have quickly cemented themselves as one of NZ’s premier folk duos. While their backgrounds have strong trad roots\, you may just be treated to a touch of gypsy jazz and a song or three as well!
